What we do

Friends of Richmond K9 was created in 2012 as a nonprofit foundation to facilitate educational opportunities, raise awareness of police K9 activities and accomplishments, foster community support of police dogs and K9 officers, and provide assistance in meeting the needs of retired active duty police dogs.

Our Mission

  • Improve standards for the training and deployment of K9 units within the City of Richmond

  • Conduct public relations activities to increase public awareness of the Richmond K9 unit

  • Foster community support of police dogs and K9 officers by educating and informing citizens about the functions and importance of the Richmond K9 unit in crime prevention in the City of Richmond

  • Provide financial support to further opportunities for collaboration with other K9 units within Central Virginia, including inter-jurisdictional training and other training opportunities that fall outside the scope of the City budget

  • Provide veterinary assistance and financial support for retired police K9s
